The political work

Being a regional politician encompasses three central tasks: to be a representative, a decision-maker and a creator of public opinion. It is about driving community development, looking ahead to see what the municipalities and the County Council will jointly invest in order to meet future challenges. Collaboration and consensus create a force for development!

The Regional Executive Board
The Regional Executive Board is the highest policymaking body and consists of 33 members and 33 alternates. Each member is represented by at least one member and one alternate elected by each parish council. Municipalities choose 22 members and 22 alternates and County Council selects 11 members and 11 alternates.

The parties that did not receive any municipal or county council seats in the Regional Executive Board, but are represented on the County Council, receive a seat of observation. This means they have the right to participate in the Regional Executive Board meetings and deliberations, but not in the decisions.

The Regional Executive Board meets five times a year at various locations in the county. The meetings are open to the public and consist of a decision meeting and so-called theme information. The term of office for the members of the Regional Executive Board is four years.

The working committee of the Regional Executive Board
The working committee is responsible for preparing the cases for the executive board. The working committee has between five and seven members that are appointed by the Regional Executive Board and the working committee is led by the president of the Regional Executive Board. The parties that are represented in the Regional Executive Board, but without a seat in the working committee, have the right to a seat of observation.

The Regional Executive Board has the right to set up additional committees, drafting committees and working groups if there should be a need for that.

The committee of the local municipalities
In addition to the Regional Executive Board, there is a committee of the local municipalities that is responsible for coordinating issues in the area of social welfare, human resource development and education. The committee of local municipalities has seven members and seven alternates that are appointed by the Regional Executive Board.

The leadership of officials
The Regional Director is the highest official at the Regional Development Council and works closely with the political leadership. The Regional Director leads the office staff and is responsible for the implementation of policy decision.
